CURIOSITY.AI @ MIRA

MIRA is a festival of digital arts and contemporary music that has been held annually in Barcelona since 2011 and has also had two editions in Berlin.

Focused on the intersection between arts and digital culture, the festival features a program that includes various live audiovisual performances, concerts, installations, 360° projections, performances, DJ sets, and conferences.

The festival aims to bring the audience closer to different realms of artistic creativity through an event with two main objectives:

  1. To serve as a platform for both emerging creators and world-renowned artists.

  2. To create unique immersive experiences through digital innovation, music, and visual arts.

Ultimately, this festival seeks to promote artistic collaborations and foster the creation of new projects. With a non-profit and associative character, the organization ensures the participation of volunteers and guarantees that the outcomes are reinvested into promoting digital culture sustainably. Artificial intelligence delivers results and answers with a speed that transforms our relationship with time, fostering a culture of instant gratification that can obscure the depth of discovery and the satisfaction of processes.

In this dynamic, the immediacy of AI facilitates the instant resolution of our questions and needs, but it can also prevent us from experiencing the richness and value of exploring something step by step.

Searching, experimenting, and overcoming obstacles are elements that fuel human curiosity and are closely tied to deeper and more lasting happiness.

According to experimental psychology, true happiness comes from working on what we are passionate about. However, today’s youth often struggle with an inherent impatience that drives a desire for immediate rewards without effort, disregarding the natural timing of processes.

“Prioritising immediacy clouds curiosity”.

“Often, given the circumstances and the fast pace of modern life, we seek to accelerate various processes at any cost, unaware of the cycles we disrupt and what we lose along the way in pursuit of immediate results. We question whether the processes tied to curiosity are clouded by artificial intelligence, a tool that provides us with quick answers through the data stored in its "cloud." Do we live in a cloudy truth to which we blindly trust?”

The conclusive statement, which condenses the research, paves the way for the creative concept and its development.

The audiovisual piece presents a chromatic progression throughout its duration, reflecting an emotional journey.

We begin with a palette of warm tones, which evoke curiosity, humanity, closeness, and personal connection.

According to the book Psychology of Color, warm colors such as red, orange, and yellow are associated with feelings of energy and enthusiasm, reinforcing the initial connection with curiosity and creativity.

As the piece progresses, patches of noisy textures in black and desaturated tones begin to emerge.

These patches symbolize the impact of artificial intelligence, clouding the vibrancy of curiosity. The appearance of these textures signifies a disruption, visually translating into a decrease in emotional warmth and an increase in confusion.

By the end of the video, the visual atmosphere becomes colder and more distant, representing how AI has entirely supplanted curiosity.

This shift is expressed chromatically through the predominant use of cool colors, particularly blue, which, according to color psychology, is associated with technology, calmness, and serenity, but also with coldness and disconnection.

Thus, the evolution of the color palette, along with the representation of the human eye, effectively illustrates the transition from human curiosity to a more impersonal and technological realm.

Artificial intelligence promises us the world at a click—answers with no wait, convenience without effort.

Sometimes, in a time when everything seems to be right in front of us curiosity gets trapped in a cycle of instant gratification.
